The Litchfield Challenge

The Litchfield Challenge is an outdoor scavenger hunt; a game where we present you with clues that need to be solved to determine real life locations in the town of Litchfield.

The challenge takes place Memorial Day weekend into October.  Your team can start whenever you want – we record your team name, start time and end time. Solve all the clues correctly and you’ll be done in 3 hours.

The clues are provided by Haight Brown Vineyard. You can come into the Vineyard for each clue and then to show the photo of your team at the location and receive next clue OR you can also receive clues and validate completely via text. The locations are hidden in everyday places around town so Google, ask Vineyard staff, visit the Litchfield Historical Society or speak with Litchfield residents to help you solve your clues.

Access to the locations requires a car (or a pair of running shoes) and the ability to walk on or off road.

Phase III – Mid-October

Haight Brown Vineyard will be open seven (7) days a week.  We have indoor seating as well as two patios and a picnic grove.   We open at 12 noon daily.  We are featuring wine flights and slushies as well as artisanal fruit and cheese platters as well as The Bakehouse focaccia pesto sandwiches.  In addition, for the sweet tooth, we have chocolate cake and lemon…yum!

The Vineyard will be reserving its upper and lower patio seating for patrons looking to consume food and wine from Haight Brown.  Customers may buy and bottle and bring their own food or purchase a picnic box for picnic grove or offsite consumption (see  below).

Nearby Hiking and Picnic Spots

Take your picnic for a beautiful nature hike on one of two nearby preserves.  CT’s largest private nature preserve, The White Memorial, has a portion of its property adjacent to the Vineyard.  Check out the Vineyard- River Loop trail for easy hiking along the Bantam River.  Vineyard River Trail Loop.

Topsmead is the former summer estate of Edith Chase, daughter of the Waterbury brass Chase family.   A beautiful Tudor style house sits atop of Jefferson Hill less than one mile from the Vineyard and a 1/4 mile the way the crow flies.  The property offers birding and animal viewing, hiking and picnicing.  Topsmead
